A community theatre opportunity by the students at Calderdale College

How would you like to participate in an online choir with other residents from Calderdale?

Students of Calderdale College University Centre from the Performing arts degree are working on a community theatre project, wishing to bring our community back together in these trying times.

It’s no secret that Covid has unfortunately made it difficult for people to come together in the same way that they usually would and with Christmas coming up people are feeling more isolated than ever from their family and friends. Christmas can often be a lonely time for elderly people living alone and with Covid restrictions, it is already proving to be a much more isolating time.

The performing arts class aims to bring the community together with a music-filled opportunity for all the family.

They want to create an Online Choir version of two well loved Christmas carols, Santa Claus is coming to town and Jingle Bells, sung by you, the people of Calderdale.

If you wish to take part, video or record yourself, your children, even the entire family singing either or both of these carols and then send them your recordings.

If you are unsure of how you can record yourself or need some assistance, contact the performing arts team who may be able to assist you. They will be abiding by the social distancing rules, would not need to enter houses or come any closer than 6 feet to any participants and will be wearing masks at all times to ensure everyone’s safety. Questionnaires can also be asked over video calls or recorded and sent if that would work better.

These videos will be edited together into an online choir that will be available to all those in Calderdale and Kirklees. The end result will also made accessible to elderly people who may be living alone or in care homes, needing some cheer during this holiday season.

Families are also asked to record their kids (young and old!) answer some of the Christmas themed questions. These answers will be edited into the video alongside the music to create a feeling of togetherness.

Online Choir Christmas Questionnaire

Please remember to clearly state your consent if you wish your participation to be made public. If everyone consents, the video will be released widely on social media!

Please note the deadline for submissions is Thursday December 17.
