Supporting bereaved families through the power of music

As National Bereaved Parents Day is marked on 3 July, Staying Well is proud to have supported Love Eternal Choir with funding to help continue its valuable work with bereaved families across Calderdale and West Yorkshire.

Love Eternal Choir, which began meeting in April 2026, has received £870 in funding from Staying Well, delivered by North Halifax Partnership. The funding will help the choir continue providing a safe, compassionate space for parents and siblings who have experienced the death of a child or sibling.

The choir was created to offer therapeutic support through singing while bringing together people who truly understand the experience of bereavement. No previous singing experience is needed – just a willingness to come together in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Since its first rehearsals, Love Eternal Choir has helped members build friendships, reduce isolation and find comfort through music and shared understanding.

Joanne Doody, Founder and Organiser of Love Eternal Choir, said:

“Love Eternal Choir was created to provide more than just a place to sing. It is a safe, understanding community where bereaved parents and siblings can find comfort, connection and hope through music. We are incredibly grateful to Staying Well, North Halifax Partnership for believing in our vision. This funding will help us continue supporting families across Calderdale and West Yorkshire at a time when many feel isolated in their grief.”

Choir member Julie shared:

“When I heard about Love Eternal Choir I thought, what’s the worst that could happen, and remembered it already had. I’m not sure I can sing and if you were to ask my family I’m sure they would agree.

Losing my eldest daughter Megan has been unimaginable and words cannot describe my grief, but meeting other parents who just understand without question has given me something back – hope.

I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognise myself, but now I look forward to our choir practice and feel lighter with some very special people, including Sally our fabulous choir teacher.”

The funding will allow Love Eternal Choir to continue meeting regularly, ensuring more bereaved families can benefit from this unique form of peer support.

Love Eternal Choir welcomes bereaved parents and siblings from across Calderdale and West Yorkshire.
